Why do we use tags while creating a DLM policy?

We use tags when creating a Data Lifecycle Manager (DLM) policy because Amazon DLM relies on a tag-driven architecture to dynamically discover and group the AWS resources it needs to back up.
Instead of requiring you to manually update a list of specific instance or volume IDs every time your infrastructure changes, tags act as the "connective tissue" between your backup policies and your live resources.
