What is the difference between an AMI and a snapshot?
A snapshot is a raw backup of a single virtual hard drive (EBS volume), whereas an AMI (Amazon Machine Image) is a complete deployment blueprint that packages one or more snapshots along with the metadata required to launch a new EC2 instance.
Think of a snapshot as a backup of your files, and an AMI as a bootable installer disk.
