What are the steps to create a custom AMI?

  1. Open the EC2 Console and go to Instances.
  2. Select your instance, click Actions, hover over Image and templates, and select Create image.
  3. Enter an Image name.
  4. (Optional) Check No reboot if you want to keep the server live during the backup (leaves a small risk of data inconsistency).
  5. Click Create image.
