What is User Data in AWS EC2?

EC2 User Data is a feature that allows you to pass configuration scripts or parameters to an EC2 instance while it is being launched.
AWS uses this data to automatically perform tasks on the operating system during its very first boot cycle—a process commonly referred to as bootstrapping.
