What is the difference between an EBS snapshot policy and an EBS-backed AMI policy?

The primary difference is that an EBS snapshot policy backs up individual data volumes (virtual hard drives), whereas an EBS-backed AMI policy backs up the entire EC2 instance, including its operating system, configuration, and all attached volumes.
