What is client-side encryption?

Client-side encryption is the cryptographic practice of encoding data on your local device before it is transmitted to a server or cloud provider.
Because the data is scrambled into ciphertext before it leaves your machine, the service provider (such as Google, AWS, or Dropbox) only hosts the encrypted file. They do not possess the decryption keys and have zero visibility into your plaintext data. This is a fundamental framework for achieving Zero-trust cloud architecture.
