The λ function that is created will access other AWS services such as S3 buckets, DynamoDB tables, or other AWS services, so in order to access these services a role has to be assigned to the λ function. Usually the role is created manually in the IAM service but in λ when we create a function there is an option to automatically create the necessary role for the function.
