Amazon EBS supports vertical scaling, allowing you to increase the size, change the volume type or improve the performance of a volume attached to an EC2 instance (often changes made without stopping the instance). EBS does not support horizontal scaling , as a single volume can only be attached to 1 EC2 instance at a time.
