What is the difference between a Public Subnet and a Private Subnet?

A public subnet connects directly to the internet via an Internet Gateway, allowing resources to receive external traffic and send requests out. A private subnet is isolated from the internet, meaning external users cannot access it, though resources can still safely download updates by routing outbound traffic through a NAT Gateway.
