It is similar to on-demand instances where the instance type, platform, availability zones, and duration of usage are specified and it can be terminated manually at any time. The pricing is also similar to that of on-demand instances. Reserved instances, however, are booked for a minimum duration of 1 year and the billing is still made for the original duration, even if the RI is terminated early.
