In Reserved instances you commit to use the instance for a certain amount of time usually 1 or year, with flexible payment options such as no upfront, partial upfront or full upfront payment. But you could be billed irrespective of whether you use the EC2 services or not. On the other hand, In on demand you only pay for time that you use the EC2 services ie., pay as you go. Whereas spot instances are highly discounted EC2 services provided by AWS which carries the risk of termination by AWS with a short notice.
