To allow an EC2 instance to be managed by AWS Systems Manager, the instance must be associated with an IAM role that has the necessary permissions. The easiest way to grant these permissions is to attach the managed policy AmazonSSMManagedInstanceCore to the IAM role associated with the EC2 instance.
