Use amazon EFS when: Shared file storage is needed for linux based applications. Low latency access to files is necessary. Handling millions of small to medium files is needed. High throughput for specific workloads is required. A file system interface is required to access data. Use amazon S3 if: Object storage is required for large amount of data. Data is accessed infrequently. Suitable for higher latency scenarios where performance is not a primary concern. Ideal for big data & static websites.
