How EBS volume can be increased and decreased?
To increase the size of an Amazon EBS volume, you can follow these steps:
- Modify the volume: Use the Amazon EC2 console to modify the volume size. You can increase the size by entering a new value for Size in the Modify volume screen
Extend the file system: If you have increased the size of your volume, you must also extend the volume's partition to make use of the additional storage capacity.
Use application-level tools: For a non-root volume, detach the volume from the instance, apply the modifications, and then re-attach the volume. For a root volume, stop the instance, apply the modifications, and then restart the instance
To decrease the size of an Amazon EBS volume, you can only create a smaller volume and then migrate your data to it using an application-level tool such as rsync (Linux instances) or robocopy (Windows instances).
