Traffic between peered VPCs does not use public IPs or the internet even if instances have public IPs vpc peering only allows routing through private IPs (not supported for public IP) Route tables in both VPCs must be updated to point to the vpc peering connection using private IP CIDR. Traffic stays within the aws network (secure)
