Yes, we can change an unencrypted root volume to an encrypted one. 1.Create a snapshot of the unencrypted root volume. 2.Copy the snapshot and enable encryption during the copy. 3. Create a new volume from the encrypted snapshot. 4. Launch a new instance using the encrypted AMI or replace root volume with the encrypted one.
