You can't directly change the device name of an existing volume itself, the device name is actually something that's assigned at the time of attachment to an EC2 instance, not a fixed attribute to a EBS volume itself.

We can't change the device name of an EBS volume it self in AWS. But we can change the device name at the time of attaching it to an EC2 instance . Detach the volume from the instance and re-attach it using device name(eg-/dev/sdf,/dev/xvdf, etc.)
