Files generally move through different statuses (untracked, modified/unstaged, staged, committed) within these three areas. Working Directory: This is the local directory where you are currently editing files. Changes here are considered untracked (for new files) or unstaged (for modified files that were previously committed). Staging Area (Index): This acts as a "draft board" or a "loading dock" for your next commit. You use the git add command to move changes from the working directory to the staging area. This allows you to selectively choose which modifications to include in a single commit, giving you fine-grained control over your project's history. Local Repository (.git directory): This is where Git permanently stores the history of your project in the form of commits. When you run git commit, Git takes a snapshot of everything currently in the staging area and records it as a new, immutable commit object.
