1.What is the difference between an AMI and an EBS snapshot?

An AMI(amazon machine image) is a pre configure template which consist of OS and software configurations. The template is used to create instances.

A snapshot is a point in time back up of the EBS volume. The snapshot is used to create EBS volume.
